Ladies and Gentlemen
We have the pleasure to welcome you at one of the concerts
organised as part of the first tour of the PROBALTICA Festival around the
Baltic countries. The tour is to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the
artistic career of the chamber ensemble MultiCamerata. The great concert
tour of all Baltic countries was inaugurated on October 14, 2001 in Toruń,
which is the home of the ensemble MultiCamerata and the PROBALTICA Festival.
The tour is organised under the auspices of the Minister of Foreign Affairs
of the Republic of Poland and the Mayor of the City of Toruń. This venture
is also possible thanks to the co-operation of the Polish embassies, Polish
Culture Institutes and other cultural institutions as well as artists from
the Baltic countries. In order to highlight the co-operation of various
groups from the Baltic countries the MultiCamerata will always perform
with an ensemble or a soloist from the country of the concert venue playing
both music composed in Poland and other Baltic countries. The tour also
wishes to inaugurate yearly concerts and exhibitions to be held as part
of the PROBALTICA in 10 Baltic countries.
The ensemble MultiCamerata started its official career in
1991 with a cycle called the Sunday Palace Concerts" held in the newly
restored Dąmbski Palace in Toruń. Since then the ensemble has given over
400 concerts both in Poland and abroad. In Poland we have performed at
the Royal Castle in Warsaw, the National Philharmonic, the Adam Mickiewicz
Hall and the Grand Theatre in Poznań, the Pomeranian Princess Castle in
Szczecin and many other places. The MultiCamerata has also given concerts
in many cities in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Holland, Lithuania, Latvia,
Sweden, Finland, Great Britain and the Vatican.
In 1993, in order to pay tribute to Toruńs most prominent
citizen, Nicholas Copernicus and to commemorate the 520th anniversary of
his birth, the 450th anniversary of his death and the publication of the
first edition of De Revolutionibus", the MultiCamerata organised a great
concert tour called Hommage ŕ Copernic" around the places where the great
astronomer had lived in Italy and Poland.
The MultiCamerata co-operates on a regular basis with the
French group OPUS 16 and the Swedish Gotlands Blasarkvintet. Our ensemble
has already recorded six CDs and has made numerous TV and radio recordings.
In 1999, to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Frederic
Chopins death, the MultiCamerata has organised a European concert tour
around France, Spain, Sweden, Lithuania and Latvia. Together with pianists
from the visited countries, our ensemble performed the great composers
compositions.
The MultiCamerata is the founder and organiser of the PROBALTICA
Music
and Art Festival of the Baltic Countries. The main aim of the festival
is to initiate co-operation, especially in the field of music and fine
arts, as well as to present the cultural heritage of all the 10 participating
Baltic countries. The encounter with the culture of these neighbouring
and yet unknown countries will hopefully lead to a better understanding
and co-operation in the integrating Europe. Since 1994 eminent soloists,
chamber ensembles, choirs, symphony orchestras and artists from 10 Baltic
countries have tried to create a universal language of artistic expression
which transcends borders and language differences. The concerts have been
held in Toruń, which is the main venue of the festival but also in Grudziądz,
Gdańsk and Warsaw,
During the eight editions of the festival we have had the
pleasure to welcome over 2,500 artists, including nearly 100 professional
groups, choirs and orchestras. The PROBALTICA has also welcomed outstanding
composers of contemporary music, e.g. Bronius Kutavicius from Lithuania,
Kalevi Aho from Finland, Andrzej Koszewski from Poland and Krzysztof Penderecki,
who is a regular guest of the festival.
The PROBALTICA Festival is organised under the auspices of
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage
of the Republic of Poland, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry
of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania and the Ambassadors of the Baltic
Countries in Poland as well as the Ambassador of the European Union.
