The main idea of the PROBALTICA Festival is presentation, promotion and co-operation in a field of music and fine arts of the all 10 Baltic Countries. In the framework of the event take place concerts of the outstanding soloists, ensembles, orchestras and exhibitions of works of artists. Their main task is to present the rich and frequently unknown cultural output of home country. During the days of event both the participants and the audience could move inside the universal world of artistic transmission of music and fine art. It gives the possibilities of cognition, getting to know and understanding the various cultures of the participated countries, nations.
The PROBALTICA is organised under auspices of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Membership in the Honorary Board of the Festival accepted also Ambassadors of all the Baltic Countries and local authorities. The following editions of the Festival received also a constant support from representative of the European Commission in Poland.
In the 15 days long PROBALTICA 2000 participated over 500 outstanding musicians and artists representing all the Baltic Countries : Pomeranian Symphony Orchestra (Poland), Den Danske
Blasarkvintett (Denmark), Magnetic North Orchestra (Norway), Curiosa Duo (Sweden), Puhkupillit (Finland), Horst Sohm (Germany), Andreas Uibo (Estonia), Rigas Saksofonu Kvartetas (Latvia), Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra (Lithuania), St. Petersburg Symphony
Orchestra (Russia).
During fifteen days of the Festival in four towns: Toruń, Grudziądz, Gdańsk and Warsaw both the participated artists and guests, audience of the Festival could spend time in the world of free artistic
communication, world without any frontiers made by states or different languages.
We thrust that possibility of contact with a culture and representatives of all Baltic Countries should initiate and develop both the understanding and co-operation process not only between persons but also firms, towns and institutions. It promotes a closer co-operation between them not only on a field of culture.
